14 warnings by regulator for promotions gambling sites during Qatar World Cup

The Gambling Authority (Ksa) is on extra alert for unauthorized activities by gambling providers during the World Cup. The rules are clear, but gambling providers seem to be pushing the boundaries here and there.

Ksa has approached two suppliers to advertise a game in which people can make World Cup pools. This is not allowed. This is to prevent those interested in the game, especially young people, from being lured into gambling through advertisements. Gambling providers have stopped doing this. In total, there have been 14 warnings in recent weeks around the World Cup.

Advertisements or sponsorships

Over the past week, some gaming vendors have again been challenged on prohibiting the use of role models in advertisements or sponsorships. The bookmaker's name or logo must not appear in the same communication as the image, voice or name of the role model. This also applies to sponsoring events or TV shows. These providers were summoned to cease the violations and complied.

In addition, Ksa posed a question to a party (referring to another website) about advertising bets on a match while it was in progress. This is not allowed to prevent impulsive behavior of spectators at these games. The provider immediately stopped the violation. A local café organizing bets on matches of the Dutch national team also had to deal with Ksa. This form of betting is prohibited in games of chance and is not allowed. Cafés immediately stopped offering bets.
