On Saturday evening, 2 January, 12 people were arrested on suspicion of illegal gambling, money laundering and identity fraud in a catering establishment on the Paviljoensgracht in The Hague. One person was also arrested after he attempted to break in on a policeman. The police, together with customs, are conducting further investigations.
Visitors who came to pick up food at the catering establishment would have been offered to gamble in another room. Around 19:30 several policemen entered the premises and found a playroom with tables with playing cards and cash.
All those present were arrested on suspicion of illegal gambling. Some of those present were also suspected of money laundering and identity fraud. While carrying out the arrests, one of the suspects attempted to drive a scooter into a police officer. A total of 13 men aged 15 to 52 are involved. They are currently still in custody and will be heard today.
