Lottery providers are increasingly adding online games to their offer, according to the Dutch Gambling Authority (Ksa). The Ksa recently started investigating this matter. If the law or licensing conditions are violated, they will take enforcement action.

Offering online a game linked to a lottery is prohibited

Some games of chance pose a greater risk than others. Online games of chance, slot machines and casino games are among the games with the highest risk. Lotteries cannot be played online; websites can sell participation certificates (such as tickets), but cannot link the game to a lottery. Lottery licences prohibit this.

The Ksa has laws to protect consumers. These laws separate risky and less risky games of chance, to prevent people from playing games that can cause gambling addictions or other related problems. The Ksa has two main objectives: to protect consumers and to prevent people from becoming addicted to gambling.
