Media Authority and Ksa cooperate in supervision of advertisement for games of chance

The Dutch Media Authority and the Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa) will cooperate more in the supervision of advertising for (online) games of chance.

Both regulators will share complaints and signals about gambling advertisements. They also consult each other regularly about trends and developments.

As of 1 November 2020, the Media Act regulates when advertising for games of chance is and is not allowed to be broadcast (refers to another website). The new rules limit the period during which advertising for certain games of chance may be broadcast. From 1 April 2021, as a result of the Act on Remote Gaming, additional requirements apply to providers of games of chance in the field of advertising. From 1 October 2021 onwards, providers in possession of a license from the Dutch Gambling Authority may offer online games of chance.

Advertising may not be misleading

The Ksa supervises the advertisements themselves. These must not be misleading and may not encourage excessive participation. They may also not be aimed at minors or other vulnerable groups.
