The British online retailer Ocado is going to work together with the French supermarket chain Casino. Casino wants to expand its online shops and is using the infrastructure of the British company to make this possible. Ocado is going to build a new distribution centre for Casino in North France. This might lead to new customers living in- and around the city Paris.
Access to thousands of products
Both companies want to improve their quality by working together. Jean-Charles Naouri, the CEO of Groupe Casino, is very excited about the prospects. Thanks to the new distribution centre, customers around Paris will get access to about 50.000 products. An online purchase will be easily delivered at home in the near future. Perhaps you also want one of the 50.000 products. In that case you should place an order at Monoprix.fr, which is one of the Casino chains.
Leading companies in the online grocery shopping market
The platform makes it possible to make a profit while delivering, which is definitely an advantage for both Ocado and Casino. Groupe Casino is one of the leading companies in the online grocery shopping market. It has already developed an own ordering system. However, the company should be making more profit out of it, experts say. This is why Groupe Casino has decided to work together with a well-known retailer like Casino.
Casino is not the first supermarket chain that works together with Ocado. The British supermarket chain Morrissons was the first one, and next year the Swedish ICA might follow. This is a big supermarket chain in the Scandinavian country. Although there are rumours, the cooperation hasn’t been formally announced yet. At the moment ICA works with a decentralized system that depends on the help of franchisees. A cooperation with Ocado will lead to a streamlined system.
Ocado is a modern company that is willing to develop new technologies. Currently it’s testing a self-driving car that delivers the products. If everything is all right, Ocado will introduce and sell this system no new retailers in 2019.
