People who participate in online gaming must be better protected against addiction and risky gaming behaviour. The journalistic research platform Pointer conducted research and claims that gambling websites such as TOTO, Kansino and Betcity are seriously lacking in legal gambling protection.
For this reason, industry-wide agreements should be made about problem players and uniform limits for all players. That is what the Dutch Lottery is advocating in a response to findings by Pointer. The journalistic research platform states that gambling websites such as TOTO, Kansino and Betcity are seriously lacking in legal gambling protection.
Pointer research into Dutch gambling sites
During the broadcast of Sunday, May 29, Pointer will pay attention to gambling addiction and the prevention policies of legal online gambling providers in the Netherlands. Consumers have been able to gamble legally online since 1 October last year. In exchange, gambling companies must prevent addiction, for example by monitoring how often and how much money someone deposits.
The Dutch Lottery is, among other things, the company behind TOTO Casino. The organisation acknowledges that it wants to prevent gambling addiction. According to Pointer, however, this is not the case in practice. Pointer discovered that a player at state-owned Toto could gamble away 10,000 euros in a short space of time. The same player had previously lost more than half a tonne at Betcity without any intervention.
