The biggest lottery in the Spain is the El gordo with a prize money of 2.4 billion perhaps the biggest in Europe. The draw is always on 22 December, one day before Christmas. Many Spaniards but also outside Spain participate in this draw.
Spain's annual Christmas lottery is quite unique. It has the world's largest prize pool with 2.4 billion euros in prizes, including a 4 million euro jackpot! For the smaller prizes, the odds start at 1:10. However, the chance of winning the jackpot is 1:100,000. In addition, 9,999 tickets win the minimum prize of 200 Euros per ticket.
This lottery started in 1812 and is more than just a lottery. It is theatre and an event in itself. The annual draw takes place at the Royal Theatre in Madrid.
