In South-Switzerland lies a municipality called Chiasso that now accepts Bitcoin as a legal way to pay your taxes. The place, where about 9000 people live, is seriously interested in crypto and working to implement it every day. From next year on, the inhabitants of Chiasso can pay up to 250 Swiss Francs in taxes with crypto. This is not very much yet, 218 euros, but it might increase in the future.
Chiasso: International center for innovation
Chiasso wants to become an international center for innovation, and blockchain and Bitcoin are going to be part of that. In the last couple of years Chiasso has grown into an important place for the technological sectors of the Swiss economy, mayor Bruno Arrigoni told the press. Several crypto startups are enthusiastic about the possibilities Chiasso offers and have moved to the area. Two of them are Digital Identity and Eidoo.
Swiss crypto valley in Zug
Interestingly enough, Switzerland is developing its own ‘crypto valley’. Especially in the Swiss town of Zug more and more crypto companies are located. Among them are Breadwallet and Xapo. Zug has been accepting Bitcoin to pay taxes and other services for a while. However, it uses a maximum of 200 Swiss francs. By raising the limit, Chiasso wants to attract more companies to test crypto technology.
