Let’s be honest: the chance of winning the Lotto is quite small. Winning twice is simply impossible, you would say. Reality can be stranger than fiction though. This year an African refugee who is now living in Canada won 2.6 million euros by winning the Lotto in Canada twice!
Finding luck in Canada
Life has not always been easy for 28-year old Melhig Melhig. He is an African refugee who tries to find his luck in Canada. By moving to Canada, luck definitely seems to be at his side. In april Melhig was the lucky winner of almost 2 million Canadian dollars, which is about 1.3 million euros. He decided to buy a nice home in Winnipeg, the capital of the Canadian province of Manitoba. Melhig has been living in the south of Canada with his family for a while. He loves it over here and to the BBC he talked about his beautiful garden and the excellent schools in the neighborhood.
Another win: what’s next?
The big win did not stop Melhig to participate in the Lotto again. An good choice, since he won another 2 million Canadian dollars five months later. It proves that miracles can happen indeed. The the lucky guy has big plants. First he wants to start his own company, like a petrol station or a car wash. After this he likes to go to school again. Studying has always been his big dream. Melhig wants to improve his English and learn a good professions, such as woodworking. The winner is only in his twenties, so he has all the time in the world. “You always have to think about how you can grow” Melhig said wisely, as can be read in a press release from the Canadian national lottery.
